The City of Pomona Water Resources Department says over three-quarters of the city’s water comes from underground reservoirs, linked to the city’s location near the San Gabriel Mountains. The City aims to maximize locally produced groundwater and locally collected surface water, and buys the rest from the Metropolitan Water District and Three Valleys Municipal Water District, which it describes as more expensive (City of Pomona Water Resources).

The City’s page does not give water hardness or pressure figures. For water quality details, see the City’s Water Quality Reports and Public Notices page.

Where the City stops and you start

Typically a water utility is responsible for its main and its side of the meter, and the property owner for the line from the meter to the house and the plumbing inside. Confirm the boundary for your address with the City. If a meter test points to a leak before the house, see how to tell if you have a slab leak.

The City lists “Water Main Leaks/Water Meter Leaks” as a reportable issue and gives its Customer Service number as (909) 620-2241 (Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) on its Utility Billing page. Check the page for current hours.

What to check at home

  • Your meter. Know where it is and how to read the leak indicator.
  • Your main shutoff. Know where it is and test that it turns.
  • Your pressure. Ask a plumber to check it with a gauge. High pressure stresses old pipe.
  • Your bills. A steady climb with no explanation is a clue. See high water bill and slab leaks.
  • Your pipe material and age. Old copper under a slab is worth watching.

Why this matters for slab leaks

Water chemistry is one of several factors in pipe corrosion, along with age, pressure and installation. See the causes of slab leaks. We do not claim Pomona water causes leaks. We recommend you read the City’s water quality report and talk to a plumber about your own pipes.
